he International Symposium on Non-Additive Entropies: Foundations, Frontiers, and Applications celebrates the legacy and contributions of non-extensive statistical mechanics, which began in 1988 with the proposal of Tsallis entropy. Honoring physicist Constantino Tsallis, the event brings together leading global figures in Rio de Janeiro for high-level discussions on the future directions and frontiers of this field.
The program covers everything from axiomatic foundations and experimental validation in physics (such as plasmas, astrophysics, and condensed matter) to innovative applications in systems biology, epidemiology, precision medicine, neuroscience, economics, and data science.
The symposium is structured around three thematic axes:
Day 1 – From Controversy to Consolidation: A focus on fundamentals and theoretical foundations.
Day 2 – From Consolidation to the Frontier: Interdisciplinary applications and recent advances.
Day 3 – Synthesis and Future Perspectives: Open dialogues and planning of new approaches.
Through a dynamic format that fosters constructive debate among critics and theorists, the event features researchers from globally prestigious institutions—such as Fiocruz, CBPF, Harvard Medical School, ETH Zurich, Queen Mary University of London, the Medical University of Vienna, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and RIKEN.
More than just an academic gathering, the symposium reinforces Brazil's role as a hub of international excellence in research on complex systems applied to health, science, and innovation.
